Living with Purpose: How I Moved from Career Woman to Stay-at-Home Mom

blog - living with purpose post Jan 24, 2025

From as far back as I could remember, I’ve always loved children. As the oldest of three, I found myself surrounded by kids—whether babysitting neighborhood kids, church members’ children, or my younger brother and sister. I loved being with them, and they gravitated toward me. Little did I know, these moments would shape my heart for motherhood in profound ways.

When I got married, my husband and I decided to wait five years before starting our family. At the time, I worked as a counselor at Aquinas College here in Nashville, Tennessee. As much as I loved my career, something in my heart was drawn to being a stay-at-home mom. I didn’t want to send my baby off to daycare, so my mom graciously helped care for Haley while I worked. I treasure the memories of visiting my mom’s house during lunch to nurse Haley, seeing her happy and healthy in the place where I felt most at peace.

When our second daughter, Ashley, was born, it felt like the right time for me to step into the role of a full-time stay-at-home mom. I threw myself into being home, wanting to create the best environment for my daughters. Yet, in my desire to get everything “just right,” I sometimes felt I was losing myself. I became so focused on routines, schedules, and ensuring my girls were always bathed in prayer that I found myself reaching out to friends for advice, seeking validation in my new role.

But through it all, the most important thing I did was to nurture my relationship with God.

My daily devotions and worship with my girls were the anchor that helped me navigate the chaos of motherhood.

My journey as a mom has been full of joy and fulfillment. From homeschooling my daughters through the early grades to volunteering extensively at their Christian school, I poured my heart into their lives. As a classroom chaplain, fundraiser coordinator, and field trip helper, I was always present, helping in any way I could.

Now, as a parent to a teen and a young adult, I’ve entered a new phase of motherhood. While my time volunteering at the school has tapered off, I’ve found new ways to serve through my faith, wisdom, and experience.

Whether it’s teaching pre-K at my church or running my podcast, Moments of Grace: Real Talk for All Moms, I strive to be a landing place for inspiration and encouragement to other moms in all phases of life.

I’m so grateful for the journey of motherhood and for all the ways God has shaped me through it. If you’re a mom, a stay-at-home mom, or just beginning your motherhood journey, know that every phase is beautiful, and you don’t have to walk it alone.
