How I Got Started in Beekeeping

Beekeeping wasn’t always on my radar, but my husband, Tyler, had a childhood memory that planted the seed.

When my husband was little, his grandfather took him to see a beehive in a tree, and that experience stuck with him. Years later, he decided to start his own hives, and I was right there beside him—curious but not quite sure what I was getting into!

Nine years ago, we started with just 4 hives. With Tyler’s dedication and passion, those four turned into 180!

At first, I was his sidekick, helping where I could, but the more I learned, the more I fell in love with beekeeping myself.

There was something magical about watching the hive work together in perfect harmony, seeing the direct impact bees have on our food system, and realizing just how much these tiny creatures shape our world.

With my background in education, I knew I had to share this wonder with others—especially kids.

I love bringing the magic of bees into classrooms, helping students see how essential they are to our environment and the food we eat.

My hope is that by sparking their interest, some of them will become future beekeepers themselves, keeping our agriculture buzzing for generations to come.
